Precious Paws is a Canadian company. We handle your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This notice maps PIPEDA's ten fair-information principles to how we actually operate. For a complete picture, read this alongside our Privacy policy.
1. Accountability
Precious Paws is responsible for personal information under our control. A designated privacy officer oversees compliance with this notice and our privacy policy, and is reachable at the address below.
2. Identifying purposes
We identify the purposes for collecting personal information at or before the point of collection — when you create an account, order a kit, or submit a sample. Those purposes are listed in our Privacy policy.
3. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent. By submitting a kit, you consent to the cross-border processing step (sequencing at our U.S. laboratory partner). You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
4. Limiting collection
We collect only the personal information needed to deliver our service: account and shipping details, dog information you choose to provide, the biological sample, and the derived lab data.
5. Limiting use, disclosure & retention
We use personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected. We do not sell or share individual-level data. The physical sample is destroyed after analysis. Derived data is retained while you have an account and is removed within 30 days of account deletion (subject to rolling backup-retention windows).
6. Accuracy
We keep personal information as accurate as needed for the purposes we collected it. You can view and correct your account and dog information from your dashboard at any time.
7. Safeguards
We protect personal information with TLS in transit, encryption at rest, hashed passwords, role-based access controls, and contractual safeguards with every service provider (including our U.S. laboratory partner).
8. Openness
Our privacy practices are published openly on this site. We answer specific questions about how we handle your information by email.
9. Individual access
On request, we will confirm what personal information we hold about you and your dog, how it is being used, and to whom it has been disclosed. Email us to make an access request.
10. Challenging compliance
You may challenge our compliance with the principles above by contacting our privacy officer. If unresolved, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
